How much is the grant?

Your homeGrant for an air source heat pump
Currently on mains gas or electric heating£7,500
Off the gas grid (oil or LPG), installed 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027£9,000

The grant is paid to us as your installer and taken off your price, so you only ever pay the balance.

Who can get it?

  • You own the home (or a small business property) in England or Wales
  • You're replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as a gas, oil or LPG boiler, or electric heating that isn't a heat pump
  • The install is done by an MCS certified installer, which NorthStar is
  • The heat pump replaces the old system completely, as hybrid setups that keep a boiler aren't covered

You don't have to upgrade your insulation first to qualify, although we may suggest it if it makes a real difference to the size of heat pump you need.

How the grant works with us

  1. Survey and quote. We check your eligibility at the survey and show the grant deducted on your written quote.
  2. We apply. Once you accept, we submit the application to Ofgem on your behalf.
  3. You confirm. Ofgem contacts you to check you're happy for us to apply. That's the only step you need to do.
  4. Install. We fit the heat pump and register it with MCS.
  5. We claim it. The grant is paid to us, and you pay the balance.

Are you on oil or LPG?

Plenty of homes on the edge of Sheffield, out towards Bradfield, the Hope Valley and the Peak District villages, aren't on mains gas. Until 31 March 2027, those homes can get £9,000 towards a heat pump. Read more about replacing an oil or LPG boiler.

Grant amounts and rules are set by the government and Ofgem and can change. We'll confirm what applies to your home at the time of your quote.

What customers say

5-star reviews from our Google Business Profile.

“We was a bit unsure about getting a heat pump at first cos heard mixed things but NorthStar actually explained it all decent and didnt just try sell us one straight away. They checked house properly first and went through what would work best for us. Install took a bit of organising but lads kept us updated and got on with it. Been using it a few weeks now and house stays warm no problem and its quieter than I expected aswell.”

“Had no idea what size heat pump we needed or whether the house would even suit one, so was half expecting a load of confusing sales talk. Didn’t get any of that. Everything was explained simply, we knew what we were paying for and the install went smoother than expected. House is heating up nicely and it’s been easy enough to get used to. Very happy we went ahead with it.”

Grant questions

Can I get the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?

Homeowners in England and Wales replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as a gas, oil or LPG boiler, can usually claim £7,500 towards an air source heat pump. The grant has to go through an MCS certified installer. NorthStar is MCS certified, so we apply for it and take it straight off your quote. You don't fill in any forms yourself.

Is there a bigger grant for homes on oil or LPG?

Yes. Eligible homes that are off the gas grid can get £9,000 instead of £7,500 for a heat pump installed between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027. That covers a lot of homes on the Peak District side of Sheffield. We check whether your property qualifies at the survey.

Can I keep my gas boiler as a backup?

Hybrid systems that keep a boiler alongside a heat pump aren't covered by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, so to get the grant the heat pump needs to replace the boiler completely. A correctly sized heat pump doesn't need a backup boiler.

How much does an air source heat pump cost in Sheffield?

It depends on the size of your home, how much heat it loses, and whether radiators or the hot water cylinder need changing. We price every job from a survey and a room-by-room heat loss calculation, then take the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant off the quote if you're eligible.
